Poland sugar tax 2027: what the sugar fee costs, and what to do
Sweetened drinks pay 0.50 zł a litre plus 0.05 zł for every gram of sugar above 5g, up to 1.20 zł. A draft law would raise it from 2027. We work out the cost for every product and how to price for it.
At the rates in force since 2021 (Article 12f of the Public Health Act). Isotonic drinks are treated like juice drinks.

- Planned
- A draft law (UD417) would raise the rates from 1 January 2027, for example the fixed part to 0.70 zł and the most per litre to 1.80 zł, and widen the scope. The President vetoed a similar rise in 2025.
Pass it on
Raise the price by the tax or more. Works for products whose sales hold up when the price rises.
Absorb it
Keep the price and take the cost. Works when a rise would push a product past a key price point and lose more profit than the tax.
Cut sugar
Each gram above 5g adds 0.05 zł a litre, so small cuts pay. Below 5g only the fixed part remains.
