Chile sugar tax: what 18% or 10% costs each drink
Sweetened non-alcoholic drinks pay an extra tax on their price: 18% over 6.25g of sugar per 100ml, and 10% at or below, on top of 19% VAT. Since 2024 it also covers isotonic drinks and nectars. We work out the cost for every product and the most profitable response.
The additional tax on non-alcoholic drinks (IABA). VAT at 19% is charged as well.

Pass it on
Raise the price by the tax or more. Works for products whose sales hold up when the price rises.
Absorb it
Keep the price and take the cost. Works when a rise would push a product past a key price point and lose more profit than the tax.
Cut sugar
At 6.25g or less a drink pays 10% instead of 18% of its price.
