When shoppers barely react to price

Pass it on

Raise the price by the tax or more. Works for products whose sales hold up when the price rises.

When a price point matters

Absorb it

Keep the price and take the cost. Works when a rise would push a product past a key price point and lose more profit than the tax.

When only zero escapes

Remove added sugar

With no bands, only a drink sweetened with sweeteners alone pays less: MXN 1.50 instead of 3.08 a litre.
